The new film from Christopher Nolan is said to have an eye-watering budget that makes it one of the most expensive original films ever made.
Tenet, which is currently shooting action sequences in Estonia, has been described as a “massive, innovative, action blockbuster” and its reported budget pits it as precisely that.
According to Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR), the film is said to be costing approximately $225m.
This makes it Nolan’s most expensive original film to date – and his second priciest behind The Dark Knight Rises ($230m).
Moreover, if this is the actual budget of Nolan’s new espionage thriller, then it’ll go down in the books as one of the most expensive original film that’s not based on existing material to date.
The only films that exceed it are Disney film Tangled ($260m) and James Cameron’s record-breaking Avatar ($237m).
Tenet stars Robert Pattinson, John David Washington, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor Johnson and, of course, Michael Caine.
The film wil see Nolan reunite with cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, with scoring duties going to Black Panther Oscar-winner Ludwig Göransson as opposed to his frequent collaborator Hans Zimmer.
Last year, Caine revealed the truth about the ambiguous ending to Nolan’s 2010 mind-bending thriller Inception.
Tenet will be released in cinemas July 2020.
